Sharrow School Becomes Local Nature Reserve
Like Sheffield's other Local Nature Reserves, Sharrow School's green roof was designated for its great ecological value and its importance to the local community. It also helps reduce the impact of climate change by keeping the building cool in summer, soaking up heavy rainfall and absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Sharrow School's green roof was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 2009 on the 60th anniversary of the National Parks Act which provided the legal framework for declaring nature reserves.
